Derby, Graduation, and more…in May

May was very much a blur for me.
First weekend was Derby Weekend. We did not go down to Churchill Downs, but we did go to Belterra Park for the day and bet on all of the horses.

The next morning was the Flying Pig Half and Full Marathon. Aaron’s boss was running in it, so a group of us went and cheered him on about the half way mark, and then went down closer to the finish line to cheer him on in the last mile! It was such a great experience. We stayed to watch the Full Marathon winners come in. The lady who was the first female to cross the line had run in the marathon for 7 years, and the previous couple of years she had came in 2nd and 3rd place. We cheered her on, and then found out that it was her husband and friends beside us. So exciting! It felt so good to be there cheering on all of these random strangers. I do not like running enough to do a full marathon, but maybe would consider a half. We’ll see. This fall I am doing a 7K run, then a 15K bike ride the following weekend, and am debating on training for the Cyclones Frozen 10K in February. If I do not do the 10K, I will for sure do the 5K.

Joe saw us! Mile 9

The next weekend was GRADUATION!! Could not believe I was going to be walking across the stage for my Master’s. I had so much support that day. Aaron and his parents came to the ceremony, and I had family and friends back home watching online. I was receiving text messages and screenshots of the online video as I patiently sat waiting for my classmates and I to get ready to cross the stage. That night, about 16 of us went for dinner to Purple Poulet just down the street from our house to celebrate. It was the perfect day and night. I was missing a few important people, but never in a million years would have expected them to come down to the States. Especially after just being here for the wedding only 8 months prior.

We went to the Paula Abdul, Boyz II Men and New Kids on the Block concert. I felt like a teen again. :)

Worked a few days the following week, and then Aaron and I were off to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Both of us had never been before, and for once we didn’t make any plans, so that was nice. We were going down with free hotels and all of these extra free things, but we had to sit through a timeshare presentation. The presentation was not as bad as I thought it would be. You hear so many horror stories, but you also hear about some good things too. We thought that someday that could be something we would do, just not in Hilton Head. There are other places in the States that we like and would prefer to have a “home” in if we were to do a timeshare. We enjoyed our time walking around to the different shops, and even went to the beach of the days. We went on a dolphin boat tour too, which was super awesome. I had started to get a migraine before we boarded the boat, so by the time we were done, I was ready to get back to the hotel. It kept getting worse. We got back to the hotel, and when I walked in to the room, I almost fell to the floor. Only thing I could think of was going from outside where it was extremely hot to the room which was freezing, and it just intensified the migraine. I crawled into bed, pulled the covers over my head and Aaron gave me a warm washcloth. Next thing I know, it is 10am Saturday morning and I have slept over 12 hours.

On the way home from Hilton Head we stopped at Crank and Book in Lexington, KY for some ice cream. We each enjoyed our own flight! It was a lot of ice cream, but it was soooo good! Can't wait to go back!!

Memorial Day weekend we left bright and early Saturday morning and went to Decatur, Illinois for a wedding. We arrived early enough that we could enjoy lunch and a brewery, then checked into the hotel. We got ready for the wedding, and off we went to see Jason and Allison get married. The wedding was at this little church in town, and then the reception was at a nearby golf course. Not in the clubhouse, but outside in a covered pavilion. It was beautiful!

The next morning we were up and out of the hotel by 6am. We were off to Indianapolis for the Indy 500. I wish that I could say that I enjoyed my first time at the Indy 500, but I was beyond disappointed. We didn’t get to the track as early as I would have liked, and we couldn’t based on where we were coming from. But for future, I will make sure that if we go again that we do not purchase general admission tickets, I will make sure that we have seats in the grandstand.
