Bye bye Edmonton!!

Hard to believe that in less than 24 hours I will (hopefully) be on the road to Winnipeg, and that my 7 weeks here in Alberta have gone by so quickly. The last week and a half I haven't been feeling very well. I thought that perhaps it was my teeth bothering me, but after an hour and a half at the endodontist on Monday this week with no results, I ended up going to the doctor, and it turns out I have my first ear infection. A part of me still thinks that something is going on with my teeth, but it's probably my paranoia of knowing that I won't have benefit coverage once I leave Alberta, so I want things to be dealt with now. Wait and see how I am the rest of today, and what the doctor says at my follow up appointment tonight. I might have to push my travel day back a day so that I can squeeze back in at both dental offices tomorrow.

Once I get to Winnipeg I don't plan on doing a whole lot of anything, just relaxing. I have a massage booked for each day that I am supposed to be there, so I am looking forward to that. Allison and Blaine play baseball on Wednesday and Thursday night, which I will go watch. Aaron flies in on Friday afternoon and I will be picking him up and taking him back out to my mom and Ken's place. As far as I know the whole family is supposed to be there. I believe the only ones who hadn't met him last year was Aunty Wendy, Uncle Frank, and Andrew. Like last year, we have a really short time frame which he is there, so we have to squeeze whatever we can in. Family night on Friday, and Saturday I have plans to take him to the Assiniboine Park Zoo, mainly to see the new Churchill Exhibit that just opened at the beginning of July, go for some poutine, and then spend a few hours down at The Forks. Then, who knows what the rest of the day/evening will entail. Sunday morning, August 3rd, we will be on the road bright and early to start our long drive back to Kentucky.

Last week I was able to go and see Shawna, and her two little ones, Mya and Sam, for a few hours. As always the kids were so entertaining and like to put on a show when I am around. Had a great night with them.

Another night that week I had the chance to go with Debbie and have dinner with two people from South Africa, Shaun and Rebecca. We met at Chop Steakhouse on the Southside, and after almost 5 hours at the restaurant, it was time for us to send them off. They had been touring Canada the whole week prior to meeting up with us, and they were leaving the next morning to head back home. Rebecca actually grew up in the UK somewhere close to London, so we talked about my upcoming study abroad trip to London/Dublin in December. She has since sent me an email with a list of things that I should try and check out while I am there.

Last Friday night I met up with Gwyn for dinner again, and we had such great conversations, and as I sat there I couldn’t help but think I am extremely lucky to have her in my life. Even though her husband is really good friends with my ex, Tyler, and they still all go camping and quading together, it’s nice to know that I was still able to keep at least one friendship out of the whole situation.  She said something to me that night that made me smile and just made me feel really good about things. She told me that after our last dinner visit a few weeks prior, that she went home and told her husband that she was so proud of me and that I have this newfound confidence in myself. She re-assured me that she didn’t think I didn’t have it before, but now I just seem to have that much more and have taken any steps to be happy, with no regrets. And she is right, after so many years with Tyler, I came to the realization that life is too short, and I missed out on things that I wished I would have done in the 7.5 years that we were together. Would I ever wish that I could go back and change the times I was with him, no, I wouldn’t, things happen for a reason. I might have missed out on some things, but I am going to do whatever I can now, as I don’t want to look back in a few years and say I wish I should have done this, I’m going to be able to say that I did do whatever it is that I wanted to do. Also, timing is everything, and I may have never met Aaron otherwise. There is a reason why Gwyn and I went to Las Vegas that year for the Academy of Country Music Awards.

To finish up with my final Edmonton area post, this past weekend was the best way to end my last weekend here. Friday was a really bad day weather wise, we had torrential wind and rain, about 3 inches, so dad had a rain-day for work and he came home early. Debbie and I had plans to go to a movie once I got off work, so the three of us ended up going. Saturday morning I took my car in for a check-up, and then I met up with Mark and Hollie so that a bunch of us could go on the Edmonton Queen River Boat. First time for me, so I was very much looking forward to it. It was still raining that morning, and actually continued to rain until about an hour before we were supposed meet everyone. Lucky for us the weather then turned beautiful and the boat ride was perfect. Had a few drinks and socialized. After the boat ride, we had a couple hours to kill before heading over to Erica and Noland’s for a BBQ. As always, we had a lot of good food, and had a chance to catch up with everyone and what was or is going on in their lives. We also played this game called Heads Up, which was so much fun. Yesterday I spent the day packing, and after supper dad and Debbie helped me load up my car. There will need to be some adjustments made tonight with the final items that need to go in, and some things will be left behind for next time.

Last day of work…so weird…that’s really all I can say….it has been a fantastic 7 weeks seeing everyone!
