Wow! Can't believe it is November already! This year has just
flown by. Just think, I have already been in the US for 3 months (yesterday),
my first semester of school is almost done. We have about 4 weeks of classes
left and then final exams. CRAZY!! I already am trying to
strategically plan out the month as I have a couple of papers to write, a
project to do, along with a couple tests in the next couple of weeks.
We're pretty much super busy every weekend until the end of the year, so that
means I have to be fairly efficient with my time during the week to ensure that
things get done. I definitely can't wait for winter break, one month off
from school. I'm hoping to get a bit more organized at the house and
unpack a few more things, and try to get back to the gym - I've gained 8lbs
since I've got here and I'm not too happy about that. Going into the American
Thanksgiving weekend and the holiday season is going to be challenging.
I'm sure by the time I finally get everything unpacked and organized at the house
it will be about time for me to go back to Canada.
So it’s been two weeks since I last posted, hopefully I can remember everything that I wanted to share. First off, on October 26th I had my Theology class in the morning and we got out mid-term exams back. I am extremely happy to report that I got 100%!! Technically I got 99%, but he gave everyone 2 bonus marks because of a question that nobody but me answered and got right, so that was pretty good. After class I walked over to the Thomas More football field as we were hosting the 1st Annual ADG Fraternity Chili Cook-off. Which I have to say was a great success! We ended up having 13 people competing, and had a few of the guys from Xi Chapter come up from Louisville to support us. We are hoping to make this an annual event, and of course it will just get better each year from now. Some other pretty exciting news to announce from that day is that I won Rho Chapter sweetheart!! What a great surprise that was. I mean I kind of had a good feeling that I would have a good chance at winning since I have been so involved with the fraternity since I got here (prior to moving as well), and have made great friendships with a lot of the guys within the fraternity who I go to school with, but I had no idea that it was going to happen now. To be honest I don't know when it was supposed to happen, but I was super excited! I am definitely looking forward to helping the Chapter out further and continue with being involved in events and outings as much as I can while I am down here. That evening was the Thomas More Halloween party so we went back to the school for a bit for that, then went over to Craig and Angela’s for the rest of the evening.

On Sunday we worked the Bengals Football game. I was pretty tired, as we didn’t get home
until 3am that morning and we had to be at the stadium for noon. I had to get some homework done before I
could go, so I was up at 8am that morning.
This was our 2nd time working in what is now our own food
stand booth, and it is crazy how much I enjoy doing it. Seymur wasn’t there this time, so I took
charge on doing the cooking, and well I sort of knew what to do, but accidently
made WAY too many brat and mett dogs. Oops!!! At least I know for next
time. We have another game on November
17th, and then 3 more in December.
That Monday I had to write my midterm exam for Economics. I didn’t bother studying as he had told us that it was going to be open-book and open-notes, but that the questions would make you think about terms and things were learnt in class and applying to them situations, so the text probably wouldn’t help. I wasn’t too concerned as I had been taking a lot of notes in class, and I have had Aaron helping me each Sunday night before class the next day by going through terms in the book to write about for my weekly assignment. Well, we got our marks back just a few days ago and I rocked it! Got another 100%! Last Tuesday I spent the day studying for my Psychology test that was on Wednesday morning, and then went to Sociology that night. Wednesday I wrote my Psychology test, and had History, then I worked for most of the afternoon. Had my Operations Management class that night and we had a surprise quiz, and then got assigned a group project. It’s funny because there are only 5 of us in the class, so there is just one group, and we just have to answer a bunch of questions that are at the back of our last chapter which is on Project Management and determining critical paths for projects. My portion is already done, and I emailed it to them yesterday, they probably think that I am way too efficient. We had told the instructor last week that we’d like to present on December 4th, but we might be able to do it a week or so earlier.
Thursday was Halloween, and my day at home, which I totally love!
The day I catch up on laundry and do a bunch of homework before the weekend
comes. I drove Aaron to work that day as
we had tickets to Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Disney that night, and we were
going to hit up Chipotle downtown for a little Mexican food before going to the
show. Turns out we couldn’t find parking
and ended up in Highland Heights at the Chipotle there. The line was extremely long, but we sort of
expected that, as if you dressed up in a Halloween costume you got a burrito,
burrito bowl or salad for $3, regular price is almost $7. And of course this
Chipotle was pretty much right next door to Northern Kentucky University, so it
was filled with students. After supper
we headed to US Bank arena, and still wore our costumes. I had called the arena
earlier that day to make sure that it was ok, and the lady said “absolutely,”
so we did. I truly admire how Aaron will
go along with things, and how we were the only two adults at the show without
kids, and we were dressed as Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. As for the show, it was FANTASTIC!! Take my favourite things, Disney (mainly
Mickey Mouse) and figure skating and you can’t go wrong. Those shows are always great, and it had been
about 10 years since I last went to one, so when I saw the 100 Years of Disney
was coming here I had to get tickets.
Again, things like this make me appreciate and love Aaron more and more
each day. He didn’t complain about me
wanting to go and didn’t say he didn’t want to go, he simply bought us tickets
because he knew it was something that I really wanted to go to. I don’t ask him to do a lot of things that
are girlie, actually nothing girlie, but I knew that something like this he
would probably at least enjoy a little bit.
I figured that he wouldn’t sit there the whole time thinking that he was
wasting time and that it would be completely awful. He definitely had set his expectations low he
said, but he actually enjoyed it. Which
I was glad to hear. Like I said before,
you can’t go wrong with Disney on Ice, the music and costumes are always so
great. We ended our night at Orange Leaf
getting some frozen yogurt.
This week hasn’t been too exciting, just been going to class and
working. I actually attended a
Leadership Roundtable yesterday afternoon for females at the college. It was very informative, we had a chance to
talk to 4 successful women who talked to us about networking, career building,
financials, and social media. Then I was
supposed to have Operations Management class, but it was cancelled, so I was
super excited about that, as I could now go to Grandma’s for supper. I met Aaron there, and we had supper with
Grandma and his mom, and then we headed over to Mellow Mushroom for Trivia
night with Vaughn, TJ, Craig, Zach, Caitlin and Ashley. My first Trivia night that I could actually
attend, so I was pretty excited. I was
hoping for some Canadian Geography questions, as they had a few of those a
couple of weeks ago. We ended up getting
3rd place, which isn’t too bad I guess. I’m looking forward to the New Year when I
will be able to try and go every week.
Today, I’m not being as productive as I would like to be, or should be. But, I am catching up on the blog, so that is a good thing. Tonight we have tickets to go see Flashdance the Musical, which I can’t wait to see! We watched the movie the other night, just so that Aaron knew more about it, and I thought maybe I would use it for my Sociology paper, but I decided to use Wedding Crashers instead. I’m also going to the school for 5pm tonight for an Etiquette Dinner. It is being put on by the Office of Career Planning and the Student Activities Board, and we get to have a 3 course meal where we will get tips from the nationally known etiquette speaker Marja Barrett. Should be quite interesting. After that I will be picking Aaron up and we’ll be heading to the show.
This weekend is yet again another extremely busy one for us. Tomorrow night Aaron has a Fraternity event,
which takes him out of town for the night. Saturday I have class from 8:30-12,
tailgating with the Saints Club at 1pm before the football game at 1:30, then
at 5-7 we are attending the unveiling of the Veterans Lounge at the school
where they are honoring Adam Peak, who was a good friend to a bunch of the guys
and was killed in action in Afghanistan in February 2010. Then over to US Bank arena to watch the
Cyclones play, and who knows where will end up after the game. Sunday we have two Bengals parties to attend,
one of those is also a 1-year old birthday party too, and then I have to study
for my History test Monday morning.
I have started to make some friendships at school, and even though
I am quite a bit older then some of them, I enjoy being able to spend time with
each and every one of them and learn about where they come from, what they like
to do, their families, etc. There is
such a diverse group of people at the school, and I love it!! I said to Aaron the other day that it is like
living in a small town, where everyone knows everyone and mostly what is going
on in your life. Reminds me a lot of
growing up outside of Winnipeg, and I didn’t realize how much I missed that
until I got to the school. It’s nice to be back in an atmosphere like that
again. Edmonton was so big, and it was
very rare that would ever run into someone you knew. So this is really nice.
