It's a girl!!!!

Welcome to the world little Natasha Jones!! What a fantastic day today is! I woke up this morning to a message from Rita that Natasha was born at 1:04am this morning, at a healthy 6lbs 9oz. I haven’t received any pictures yet, but I can’t wait to see her.  Rita was due on Friday, October 18th, and by Monday when I talked to her she said that she was going to be induced on Tuesday if the little one didn’t come that night. I’m not sure why she didn’t get induced on Tuesday, but she did yesterday at noon. All mom and dad (and I) wanted was for baby to hold on for at least 12 hours, and come any time on the 24th, as Rita’s nephews birthday is October 23rd. For some reason I was up at 4am this morning and couldn’t sleep, it’s like I knew maybe Rita had just had her or something. Weird.

Not only am I excited about Natasha’s arrival, but today is my day off from school, and all I have to say is thank god! It’s been a couple of really long days, and I thought today would never come. Tonight Aaron and I are going to a cheese making class, it’s the same company who we did our sushi making class with in December 2012. From the pictures online it looks as though we learn to make different cheese spreads.

After the class we are heading over to US Bank Arena to watch the Cyclones play their 2nd home game of the season. The first game of the season was last Saturday, and it was so much fun. Prior to the game, Aaron and I were registered to run the Cyclones Power Play 5km Run/Walk to benefit the Pink Ribbon Girls. I am proud to say that I actually ran my first 5km run, and got a time of 37:38. I have participated in a lot of walks/runs over the year but have never tried to run the whole thing.  I didn’t run this whole one as I needed to walk at some points, but probably 4/5 of it I did, or maybe just a little under that. Either way, I did way better than I ever thought I could for a first time. And, I haven’t been to the gym since early September. I’m debating on whether I should participate in another run on November 16, but I’ll have to wait and see.

As for last weekend’s hockey game, as I said, it was a lot of fun. Aaron and I invited 3 of the new ADG fraternity guys (Lane, Andrew and Rocky) with us, and covered the cost of their tickets. Lane is Aaron’s son in the fraternity (don’t ask me what it all means, cause I don’t really know) so I thought that it would be a good idea to bring him out, and it turns out that it was his first ever hockey game! Then Andrew and I sort of hit it off during the fraternity rush week when we started talking about hockey, so I thought it would be nice to invite him out that night as well, and he was super excited to come. He was supposed to play with the Cyclones but decided to go to school instead. Josh, Missy, Chase and Carrie were at the game with us as well. A few seats over from Chase was a guy in a suit, and I am not sure how Chase started talking to him, but next thing I know Chase is tapping me on the shoulder and asking me where in Canada I am from. So as I always do, I say that I was born and raised in central Canada in Winnipeg, but spent the last 12 years in Edmonton, and it turns out he’s from East St. Paul (which for some who don’t know, is in the north-east corner of Winnipeg or just outside, however you want to look at it), and this is his first season with the Cyclones – Kyle Bodie. We talked with him and his girlfriend (who was visiting for a week) for a bit, turns out she’s from Vancouver, and then as soon as the period was over they disappeared and we didn’t see them again. I’m sure I will cross paths with him again during the hockey season, seeing as though we get some nice perks being season ticket holders.

Last Saturday morning I got to attend my first HONK housing re-build. There were about 14 of us from the school, including Aaron, and we pulled out a bunch of insulation and then started painting everything, every nook and cranny where there was wood showing. The house had been infested with cockroaches and I guess there was an awful smell (moments like that I appreciate not being able to smell), so we were sealing up the wood throughout the house before brand new insulation was going to be put in and then drywall put up. I was really glad to be a part of helping with the re-build and I look forward to hopefully doing it every month. It will prepare me for the Mississippi or Florida trips over spring break when I go with the school to help Habitat for Humanity. Speaking of which, I have put my deposit down on the trip, so it’s a for sure that I will be spending a week in one of those two places in March. My first ever spring break trip, I’m pretty excited about that!

I’ll briefly mention this, but the surprise 50th wedding anniversary that we DJ’d last Friday night was a fantastic time too. The couple was so full of energy, and all the family and friends were so nice. The husband actually turned 70 at the stroke of midnight, so that was pretty cool. It was too bad the party had to end then. The highlight of the night for me was when the wife asked us if we were married or if we were going to get married and Aaron told her that I was on a trial period since I was from Canada, and someone else started talking to me and I never heard her response to him, but I guess she said “she’s going to find someone better looking and nicer and leave you”, lol. Funny lady.

My social security card came in the mail Tuesday, which was pretty quick, as the shutdown ended on the 16th, and I was at the Social Security Administration office on the 17th. Only a few days for a turn around, not too bad. I started my job yesterday too! Got to enter some students test scores and do some re-arranging and formatting of information for the annual reports. As stressed out as I have been the last while, I am thinking this job will be a nice change of pace for me, so I am looking forward to working a couple afternoons each week. I’m allowed under the law to work a maximum of 20 hours a week, which during the semester I more than likely won’t be able to do, but at least I’ll have something over the winter break. The little bit of income will help buy groceries or even pay for my gas each month.

Time for me to get going, have to get some things done before I go pick Aaron up from work. We are hosting the ADG Chili-Cook off on Saturday at the football game, so I have to start prepping things for that.
