Friends, football and lots of fun!

What a fantastic weekend! I managed to get my Economics readings done on Friday afternoon before having to head downtown to pick Aaron up from work, which put a lot less stress on me for today. We were heading to the Reds game that night, so there was no point in him coming home for us to turn around and head back downtown again. After we parked the car we went to this place called Crave for a drink and a couple appetizers before walking across the street to Great American Ball Park. It was a record crowd kind of night, over 40,000 fans packed into the ball park to watch the Reds fall to the Pirates, 4-1.  The Diversity & Inclusion Club, along with the Spanish Club at Thomas More had bought a bunch of tickets for students and staff, so about 100 of us went from the school at a discount. It was Hispanic Heritage night, so the Reds wore jerseys in Spanish and there were some cultural dances.

Saturday we went to Thomas More’s first football game of the season, where we tailgated a couple hours before with some of our friends, and the Department of Accountancy. I had only ever been to one other Thomas More football game, the Bridge Bowl at Mount St. Joseph, and that was my very first trip down to visit Aaron back in November 2011. This time, I was going to the game to support my school, as I am a Thomas More Saint! The atmosphere was fantastic and I just love the people who I have met and continue to meet at the school. Aaron and I spoke with quite a few people, and one of the most important ones I like to think this was the International Business teacher, Lynnette. I had spoken with her briefly at our International Student Society meeting on Friday afternoon, but wasn’t aware that she was an instructor at the school. Then that evening she was at the Reds game, so we briefly exchanged words. But on Saturday, we were talking to her about the classes I need to take and hope to take in the Spring and she mentioned perhaps me going on the Nicaragua trip with her in May after the semester was over. The trip would entail going there to tour businesses and sites to learn about their work, etc. and it very well could possibly count as credits for one of my business classes. I would have to go on the trip and do a bit of homework on the side to make up for not attending an actual class in the New Year, but I thought that sounded like a fantastic idea!  She is going to check on the details with all that and let us know if it in fact would be an option. Everything at this point outside of just going to school, we have to consider how much money it’s going to cost and if we or I can afford to do it. I still haven’t got a Work Study on campus yet, so that is a little frustrating. Anyways, back to Saturday…the boys won 48 to 21, or something like that.  I’ll be honest, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the game as I don’t fully understand the sport yet.  Then that night a small group of us went to AJ Jolly Park to camp for the night. Aaron and I just bought a new tent, so it was kind of exciting to experience camping that way again. Haven’t slept in a tent in many, many years. And, it wasn’t too bad. Yeah the ground was way too hard and we didn’t really have the proper blankets, but I brought long-johns and extra pants, socks and shirts, so I just bundled up.

This morning we packed up fairly early, 9am, and on the way home stopped for breakfast at this little diner. I can’t remember the name of the place, Spare Time grill or something, but it reminded me of a place that would probably be on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Then we came home and unpacked the car, had a short nap, and then just laid around the house all day with Seymur. Seymur came in late Friday night from Indianapolis so that he could go to the football game on Saturday afternoon, and then to attend the Pinning ceremony tonight for the ADG Fraternity. I was able to finish my Economics papers fairly early and then just enjoyed the rest of the evening. We ordered in Jet’s Pizza, which we had once before, and I am really liking it.  Seymur and Aaron left not that long ago to go to the school for the Pinning Ceremony.  I’m not exactly sure what happens at that, but I know that they are giving out Bids to some of the guys who were and are interested in joining the Fraternity. Then I think it’s up to these new guys on whether they choose to officially join.

Last week wasn’t full of any sort of excitement. Just attended my classes and did some homework and preparation for my Theology midterm on October 4th.  The three evening classes in a row are kind of draining, but I’m not really sure why since I still get home at a fairly decent time and I only have to go once a week.

In a way I am looking forward to this week, and in some ways not so much. This Thursday we are going to see “Ghost: The Musical” at the Aronoff Center for the Arts; Friday over the lunch hour I get to listen to Paul Curran, who is a Psychologist, come speak about Industrial-Organizational Psychology which is concerned with the study of workplace behaviour.  Pretty fitting for Human Resources, so needless to say I am pretty excited to hear about this. Saturday is Homecoming, and Aaron is DJing a wedding that I get to go to, but I also have a midterm that morning. Then it brings me into the next week with a paper due and 2 midterms all within just over 24 hours of one another. Dreaded tests, can’t stand them, they stress me out way too much, when I know they shouldn’t.  All I have to say is that it is a good thing Aaron has so much patience and knows what to say when I feel like I might have a meltdown. Well, it’s time for me to get to bed. Have a great week!!

Carrie, Tommy Mo and I tailgating at the Thomas More Saints Football game!
