Happy Friday!! Hopefully everyone has had a good week. Today
was my 2nd day of classes, and I only had 2 of them, so there’s
nothing wrong with that on a Friday. Over the lunch hour there was a Clubs Fair
set up to showcase all the different areas students can get involved in based
on their interests. I decided to check
them all out, and even signed up for a few: Outdoor Adventures Club,
International Students Society, Saints Club, Student Activities Board, and
Business Society. Business Society is the one Aaron told me about a long time
ago, as this club works with Habitat for Humanity and HONK (Housing Opportunities
for Northern Kentucky). During Spring Break, in March, the group goes to
Louisiana, Mississippi or other places which need assistance and help build
houses for those who are less fortunate. Professor Shuey is already talking
about sending me to Mississippi, as I guess 2 groups travel together and then
end up splitting ways after the first night. I didn’t get all the details, but
I will for sure keep everyone posted on that when I do find out. HONK is a more
localized involvement which helps people to have the opportunity to own a place
in Northern Kentucky. Once a month we’d have the opportunity to go and rehab an
existing house or assist with the construction of a new one. Sounds like a
fantastic thing to do!
Something occurred to me today when I was out trying to find
a place that would replace the batteries in my 3 watches. There are hardly any
clocks in any of the classrooms, and that will drive me nuts all semester. I
get the reason behind it, but I need to know the time. Anyways, as I was going
into a couple places I found myself saying to the person who worked there that “I’m
new to the area, so can you please help me out with…” and by the second time I
had said it, I had to laugh. It made me think about being new in the HR
Consultant role a couple years ago, and how you’d would pretty much say for
about a year that you were new to the job and would have to ask about something
or you could just blame something that went wrong on being new. I know that a
few of us in my office joked about that a lot, especially when they’d shift the
portfolios and you’d be working with new Line Managers. Definitely can see now
how it works in a lot of different situations, and it just reminded me of a
couple friends/co-workers back home today – Julie and Janine. Miss you guys!
After my search for batteries, I had to find a mall that had
a Claire’s or Icing in it, or anywhere that pierced ears, as a couple days ago
I lost the back to one of my original earrings from when I had my ear pierced 5
or 6 years ago. I won’t get into the specific details as to why I was wanting
one of those certain earrings, but I did meet a very interesting lady at Piercing
Pagoda (don’t think we have any of those in Canada) at one of the nearby malls
this afternoon who I wanted to talk about. I’m not sure exactly how it came up,
but she told me that her brother married a Canadian, and all the red-tape,
paperwork, etc. that was involved. We briefly talked about my experience and
just how difficult it seems to be for a Canadian or American to move to either
Country. You just don’t know who you will meet and the interesting stories they
will have about a situation fairly similar to Aaron and me.
This weekend is looking to be pretty busy for me, and us, as
I have class tomorrow morning, and Aaron is going to be building a dance floor
for our party next weekend. Then we are off to the ADG Fraternity Picnic,
followed by 2 friend’s birthdays – Seymur and Kelsi. Luckily, they are both
married to one another, so we don’t have to worry about ducking out of one
party to go to another. On Sunday I don’t plan to do much other then read for
school, write a mini paper for my psychology class, and just get meals ready
for the week. We’ll see how that goes! Hope you have a great weekend!!
